Karina Silvana Sanchez

Karina Sanchez is the Director of Disability of the Government of Junín – Buenos Aires, Argentina. Born blind, Karina had to surpass multiple obstacles from an early age. She pursued her education in a regular school with the support of her family, classmates, and special teachers, and graduated as a lawyer. In spite of the societal norm that people with disabilities stay at home, in 2001 Karina joined the Municipality of Junín to ensure that all people have equal rights and opportunities. One of her innovations was the creation of the first Braille and Talking library in Junín. In 2022 her collaboration with the FUPIS nonprofit organization won the Ayni Local Innovators Program. Karina was also Delegate to the Latin American Union of the Blind and the World Union of the Blind. Her guide dog “Jeri Dean” has been accompanying her for the past ten years.
